Product Overview

The SSUG4745 Underground Garage / Carport Storm Shelter is a larger-format, under-slab steel shelter designed for homeowners who want increased interior length while preserving usable garage or carport space. This model delivers the same trusted SteelSafe construction found in other in-ground interior shelters, with additional length to improve occupant comfort and interior layout flexibility.

The shelter installs directly beneath an existing or new concrete slab, allowing interior access without exposure to outdoor weather conditions and without requiring exterior excavation. A two-piece internal lid system opens fully within the footprint of the shelter, providing secure entry while eliminating the need for exterior clearance around the opening.

All welds are professionally dye tested, and the exterior is protected with a hand-applied epoxy and tar blend coating to help resist moisture and corrosion. Integrated steel stiffeners reinforce the structure during concrete backfill, and the unit is positioned to promote proper drainage around the lid area once installed.

This model is suitable for both retrofit installations and new construction projects and includes manufacturer-approved installation guidance to support homeowners, builders, and contractors throughout the process.
